What a huge change they have made to one of my favorite spots. A few years ago they dug out massive amounts of earth here to shorten the tunnel by 500 feet on the west end. They also raised  the ceilings inside to help with the major amounts of smoke and heat experienced by the helpers. This has made a much needed change to the operations here. Helpers don’t shut down as much due to overheating and choking out from the smoke. That really helps when you are shoving 15,000 tons or more up a steep grade.
